Issues such as the lack of social protection in informal majority economies; food poverty or inequalities and violations of rights of discriminated communities can be tackled through a socio-economic transformation based on sustainable development and the protection of life and the planet over economic profit: the real possibility of a transformative alternative to the challenges of the poly-crisis world in which we live in harmony with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The 79th UN General Assembly on November 24 2024, passed a new resolution on the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) eventually adopted by 175 UN Member States, with only one abstention. Get the copy of the resolution in this link.
Social Solidarity Economy (SSE) is increasingly at the forefront of the political agenda.
UN Member States are encouraged to promote and implement national, local and regional strategies, policies and programmes for supporting and enhancing the social and solidarity economy as a possible model for sustainable economic and social development, which may be carried out by, but not limited to :
- acknowledging the social and solidarity economy in education curricula
- capacity-building
- research initiatives
- reinforcing entrepreneurship and business support
In consideration for such, ASEC has been preparing “The SSE for SGDs Roadmap” through collective actions in which you are welcome to collaborate.
